The Little Green Book October, 2015 Edition

The Little Green Book October 2015 Edition

Here it is, the latest version of “The Little Green Book”!  Hard copies are scheduled to be available by October 15th. I’ll post it here when they’re ready.

We’ve had several changes, with three additional meals now included.  Many thanks to all of the folks who have faithfully served for years, and the new ones who have come on board!  Additions for the October, 2015, edition include:

  • Northside Baptist Church, already serving on Sunday mornings, now providing Thursday breakfasts (and a shuttle from Center City Park) as well. Hallelujah, as there were zero options for Thursday breakfast!
  • St. James Presbyterian Church, providing an additional Sunday afternoon meal at 3 p.m. They are also including health screenings at that location, in partnership with Cone Health. Awesome.
  • Groometown United Methodist Church providing an additional lunch location every other Friday. They also have a clothing closet, and on their first visit, folks can choose an outfit.

On the second Friday, Zion Place Ministries and Friends is providing breakfast, but on other Fridays, there is no breakfast.  If you know of any group, faith community, or bunch of friends who are interested in doing Friday breakfast, once a month, every week, or whatever works for them, please ask them to contact me, 336.754.2106, amymurphy1000@gmail.com.

Updates for “The Little Green Book” will be every April and October, and I’ll always post them here.

And more good news! Soon, we will have a new resource guide, “The Little Blue Book”, which will follow the same format as “The Little Green Book”. This one will be food pantries all over the city. It will include how often folks may come, requirements (for example a photo ID), and directions. I am expecting to have it ready to roll before the end of October. Many thanks to all those who have helped get this one together, particularly Nicole Zelniker, who is a student at Guilford College walking the talk!

  1. Thanks, Amy.

You might want to (if you haven’t already) contact Julie Peeples and/or Andy Koren and ask them when next Faith Leaders Council meeting is and distribute copies there. I think you know Maseta Dorley at New Jerusalem sends info out to those faith communities. Ginny Hultquist said play and you were great. Sorry I missed it and you.

I still haven’t heard anything about what WE shelter plans except for a general plea to churches to help. Have you? I emailed Michelle and called her about it and also called her and Shana C. at the IRC to ask about whether they needed shoes but no response. Someone at the desk said they did not need shoes so we’re going to give them to Christ Church for their Oct. 31 giveaway. Do you know about that?

    1. Frank,
Yes, lots of plans for distribution once we have hard copies in hand.
Not a word about the winter shelter plans. Sigh….
We can always use shoes, one of the biggest needs. I did not know about the Christ Church giveaway. Are they coming downtown? Otherwise, it won’t be the same folks – not without transportation.
